Two Actions You Can Take for Your Immigrant Neighbors
Join ICNY's Advocacy for Dignity and Justice for Immigrants
ICNY Associate Director for Migrant Outreach Brennan Brink speaking in Albany on the importance of NY4ALL Legislation. His message was simple: “Immigrants make New York Safer. It’s time for New York to make immigrants safer.”
PASS NY4ALL
Since January, New York State has seen hundreds of people — farm workers, school children, families — detained and, in some cases, deported by ICE. Currently, four counties across New York State — Broome, Nassau, Onondaga and Rensselaer — cooperate with ICE on these raids and captures. These local sheriff's offices hold detainees, follow directives from US Border Patrol and actively assist in the denial of due process.
There is something you can do. NY4ALL is a bill in front of the New York State Assembly that prohibits state and local officials from assisting federal immigration enforcement. Passing this bill will help ensure that everyone, regardless of immigration status, can safely access state and local resources. Groups like New York Immigration Coalition, HIAS and NYCLU are building a state-wide community of support for this bill. Broad support for NY4ALL is growing. Here’s how you can help:
1) Ask your own State representative (look them up here) to co-sponsor the bill NY4ALL (A3506/S2235)
2) Call Speaker of the Assembly Carl Heastie (518-455-3791) and Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart Cousins (518-455-2585) and ask them to commit to moving NY4ALL (A3506/S2235) forward for passage this year. Find call scripts here.
3) Join an NYCLU led phone banking opportunity here.

SHUT DOWN DELANEY DETENTION CENTER
In recent weeks, national attention has focused on Delaney Hall, an ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey run by private prison contractor, the GeoGroup. Located in "Chemical Alley" and operating as a law unto itself (Mayor Ras Baraka and the city of Newark are in court over GeoGroup's refusal to abide by local zoning and fire regulations), Delaney Detention Center began receiving detainees earlier this month.
With the leadership of Pax Christie, Make the Road NJ and Faith in NJ. Faith leaders, activists and elected officials have been building an ongoing presence outside Delaney Hall protesting the treatment of elected officials like local Congresswoman LaMonica McIver who like Mayor Baraka was attacked for exercising her oversight responsibilities at the facility.
Please join ICNY and a growing number of faith leaders and advocates from the wider metro area and around the country to rally outside of Delaney Hall. Join these vigils assisting families of the detained and calling for accountability for this lawless detention center— see the schedule of daily vigils here.
Join us tonight at 8 pm ET a for an important webinar to learn how New Yorkers can support the Delany Hall movement and resist ICE in NY and NJ. It is hosted by Pax Christie NJ, First Friends, Detention Watch Network and many others. You can sign up here bit.ly/May22ICE.
